IATA posts second Addendum for 2021 DGR
2021-04-05T05:00:00Z
In as many months, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) posted the second Addendum to the 2021 edition of their Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) on February 23, 2021.
The Addendum, which makes amendments and corrections to the 2021 edition of the IATA DGR, is effective from January 1, 2021.
A summary of the changes from the four-page Addendum includes:
- Amended special provision A220 — Revised the term “COVID-19 vaccines” to “COVID-19 pharmaceuticals.” Also, added text to clarify that, when prior arrangements are made with the operator, packages sent without COVID-19 pharmaceuticals for the purpose of use or re-use are also excepted from the normal marking and documentation requirements for Section II lithium batteries in Packing Instruction 967 or 970.
- Updated Operator Variations (Section 2.3.3):
- Delete ZW (Air Wisconsin)
- Delete 4M (LAN Argentina)
- Amend AT (Royal Air Maroc) — Corrected the link to the Royal Air Maroc website for passengers needing assistance.
- Amend EK (Emirates) — Added statement requirements to air waybills (hazmat shipping papers) for shipments of equipment or vehicles powered by new lithium batteries.
- Amend JQ (Jetstar) — Clarified that lithium batteries shipped as cargo are forbidden.
- Amend OM (Mongolian Airlines) — Added a list of materials that are forbidden for transport on B737-300 aircraft.
Requirements
Most airlines require the IATA DGR to be used when transporting dangerous goods by air. The Addendum is also required to be referenced as it makes several changes to the DGR and can affect your dangerous goods shipment.
It’s a good idea to print a copy of all Addendums and keep them with your IATA DGR so that you always have the changes close by.
