Let’s take a closer look
It’s possible that not all of these dates apply to your facility, so let’s take a look at each one:
- 1/15 — EPA civil penalties adjusted for inflation by date — EPA raises its civil penalties based on inflation as mandated by law, and this is published in the Federal Register on or around January 15 each year.
- 1/15 — Annual pesticide registration maintenance fee — Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) Sections 3 and 24(c) registrations are subject to an annual maintenance fee. Specifically, a person who holds an active or suspended pesticide registration must pay an annual fee to keep the registration in effect. Affected applicants are contacted by mail in November with instructions for submitting the fee.
- 1/30 — Annual report for industrial stormwater multi-sector permit — This report is required by any facility covered by the Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP), an industrial stormwater permit used where federal EPA is the permitting authority. Permit locations and industrial activities eligible for this coverage are listed in the MSGP.
- 3/1 — Annual hazardous waste export reporting — This report summarizes the types, quantities, frequency, and ultimate destination of all covered waste exported during the previous calendar year, along with the facility’s EPA identification number. See 40 CFR 262.83(g), 266.80, 273.20, 273.40, and 273.56 for details.
- 3/1 — Cathode ray tubes (CRTs) export annual reporting — Exporters of used, broken CRTs must file the annual report summarizing the quantities, frequency of shipment, and ultimate destination(s) of all used CRTs exported during the previous calendar year. The report includes information listed in 40 CFR 261.39 (a)(5)(x)-(xi).
- 3/1 — Chemical inventory (Tier II or state equivalent) reporting — This reporting requirement covers any facility that is required by OSHA to prepare or have available a safety data sheet for a hazardous chemical and that chemical was present at one time in an amount equal to or greater than the threshold amount during the previous calendar year. All states require the Tier II form or equivalent, and many mandate electronic submissions and fees. See 40 CFR 370 and state requirements for submission details.
- 3/1 — Annual production reporting for pesticide establishments — Establishments (including importers), domestic or foreign, that produce a pesticide, active ingredient, or device must file this report. Refer to 40 CFR 167.85.
- 3/31 — Annual greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting — 40 CFR 98 calls for the submission of a GHG report and certificate of representation to be submitted electronically. This requirement covers fossil fuel suppliers and industrial gas suppliers, and manufacturers of vehicles and engines outside of the light-duty sector. It also covers certain downstream facilities that emit GHGs.
- 7/1 — Toxics release inventory (TRI) reporting — This report is required by any facility that has ten or more full-time employees; has one of the listed industry codes (or any industry code if a federal facility); and manufactured, processed, or otherwise used a listed toxic chemical over its threshold quantity. Go to 40 CFR 372 for more information.
- 7/1 — Consumer confidence reporting for drinking water — This report is required by community water systems (CWSs) of all size categories. Each CWS must provide to its customers an annual report that contains the information specified in 40 CFR 141.153 and 141.154.
- 7/1 — Record of dispositions of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)/PCB items — This annual document logs the dispositions of PCBs and PCB items for the previous calendar year. This is a recordkeeping, not reporting, requirement. The annual records shall include the items listed in 40 CFR 761.180.
- 7/15 — Reporting for PCBs/PCB items handled as waste — This reporting applies to the owner or operator of a facility (including high efficiency boiler operations) used for the commercial storage or disposal of PCBs and PCB items. The annual report contains the information required by 761.180(b)(3)(i) through (b)(3)(vi) for PCBs and PCB Items that were handled as PCB waste at the facility during the previous calendar year.
