The information in this newsletter addresses many issues your employees need to know about various hazardous chemicals and materials in your establishment. Ideas for covering company-specific information in your training for this topic include:
- Review some types of DOT markings and labels that typically arrive at your establishment. Have a sample of the types of warning signs used in your establishment. Or conduct a walking tour to point out signs and identify what they pertain to.
- Point out evacuation maps in the event of a chemical accident or spill.
- Walk trainees to an eyewash station. Explain the requirements for maintenance, keeping a clear path to the eyewash station, and company expectations for employee use of the eyewash.
- Run through scenarios with trainees. For example, talk about how they would handle a chemical splash to the eye, from start to finish. Discuss what went wrong or what went right.
- Review proper load securement of hazardous materials. Point out or demonstrate the use of various securement devices, blocking, and bracing.
- Provide an example emergency response guide and show trainees how to fill out the guide with the appropriate information, including hazardous chemicals and emergency contact information.
