2021-04-12T05:00:00Z
Information in this newsletter is designed to help employees understand cleaning hazards as they relate to HazCom, HAZWOPER, HazMat, and HazWaste. Consider including company specific information in your training. Ideas for covering information related to spring cleaning include:
- Hand out copies of your written program. Ask questions about your program and have trainees locate the information in the document.
- Create a checklist and enable trainees to perform an inspection of the hazardous waste chemicals and spill response materials in your facility.
- Provide an array of the different packaging materials used for packaging hazardous materials at your facility and ask trainees to explain how these are to be used.
- Review your facility hazardous waste management program and contingency plans, pointing out the individual roles and responsibilities of each trainee. Tour your facility with new employees and identify all hazardous waste containers.
- Start a lean-project to identify waste and processes and find ways to improve the company’s impact on the environment.
- Create a checklist and enable trainees to perform an inspection of the hazardous waste materials and spill response materials in your facility.
- Have the group investigate and identify the different types of batteries the company must deal with and how they are being handled.
- Take photographs of the different pesticides found in your facility and put them on a poster board. Have trainees state the proper disposal procedure for the pesticide.
- Show employees around the facility and tell them where PPE is expected to be stored.
- Hold training sessions where you provide real life scenarios, then test your employees on this scenario and ask them how they would handle the situation.
- Provide employees a cleaning checklist to walk through during their day. Remind them to take time cleaning and ensure that they wear the proper personal protective equipment.
