Information in this newsletter addresses many issues your employees need to know about safety procedures as it relates to DOT and OSHA. Consider including company-specific information in your training. Brainstorm potential emergency situations likely to occur at your facility, and what actions employees would be expected to take.
Ideas for covering company-specific information related to this topic can include:
- Explain any monitoring devices used at your facility to detect the release of hazardous materials and chemicals.
- Duplicate evacuation route maps, or take employees on a tour highlighting the various evacuation routes, alternative routes, and rally points or head count locations.
- Review the details of the company emergency response plan, and explain where written copies of the plan can be found and how employees can obtain a copy.
- Show trainees the location of first-aid kits and stations near their work areas. Review the details of your company emergency response plan, specifically information on first-aid, eyewash, and shower stations.
- Identify critical operations at your facility and indicate who has been assigned emergency shutdown duties for each response. Clarify the responsibilities of each employee in the even of an emergency.
- Have employees find the emergency response information for a chemical found at your facility on an actual shipping paper, the SDS, or in an ERG.
