Remember our veterans — Post required benefits information
Memorial Day is a time to honor those who died serving our country. More states are going a step further and are honoring our veterans by creating postings that provide information about employment benefits and services available to them.
For example, in August, Arkansas will become the 10th state to require employers to display a labor law poster that outlines veterans’ benefits and services. Employers in Arkansas with 50 or more full-time employees will need to display the poster, which will be created by the Department of Labor and Licensing in consultation with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Some states provide an optional veterans’ benefits and services posting for employers, and later this summer Ohio will become part of that group. A bill passed in March directs the state’s director of commerce to create a veterans’ benefits and services posting with input from the director of veterans’ services.
What do veterans’ benefits and services postings include?
These postings typically offer information about contacts and resources that are helpful to veterans. This includes:
- Substance abuse and mental health treatment programs;
- Educational, workforce, and training resources;
- Tax benefits and exemptions;
- The availability of a veteran’s designation on a driver’s license or identification card;
- Eligibility for unemployment insurance benefits;
- Legal services; and
- Contact information for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Crisis Line.

Veterans’ benefits postings are required in these 10 states:
