The information in this newsletter addresses many issues your employees need to know about as it relates to HazCom, HAZWOPER, HazMat, and HazWaste, and as it relates to cold weather environments and spring cleaning! Consider including company-specific information in your training. Ideas for covering company-specific training for the topics in this month’s issue include:
- Hand out copies of your written program. Ask questions about your program and have trainees locate the information in the document. Provide small prizes for correct answers (be careful about incentives and refer to OSHA’s incentive programs memorandum).
- Create a checklist and enable trainees to perform an inspection of the hazardous waste chemicals and spill response material in your facility.
- Provide an array of the different packaging materials used for packaging hazardous materials at your facility. Ask trainees to explain how they are to be used.
- Review your facility’s hazardous waste management program and contingency plans, pointing out the individual roles and responsibilities of each trainee. Tour your facility and identify all hazardous waste containers. Ask trainees to identify when it began accumulating.
- Show employees where they can access cold-weather protective equipment and other supplies.
- Show employees where you keep medical supplies and allow them to have readily available access to those supplies.
- Allow employees to take breaks during cold work and allow them to utilize warming devices throughout their day.
- Run through real-life scenarios with employees. Depending on the scenario, test your employees after to see how comfortable they feel about the scenario.
- Sit employees down and run them through the vehicle inspections checklist.
