Still using these ELDs? Your drivers are in violation.
Another 10 electronic logging devices (ELDs) have been yanked from the U.S. DOT’s list of acceptable units, doubling the total number of devices involuntarily revoked since the first one in June 2022.
Due to a failure to meet the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) ELD specifications, the following devices were moved to the agency’s “revoked devices” list as of December 1, 2023:
- ELD 2 GO
- ELD4TRUCKING
- ELOG365
- GOLDEN ELD
- STEER RIGHT ELD
- TruckX-ELD
- TST 1 ELD
- WORLD TRUCKING ELD
*UPDATE: The “CI ELD LOGS” and “POWERTRUCKS ELD” devices were originally included in the list above but have since been reinstated.
The FMCSA has authority to remove any ELD that does not comply with the ELD regulations in 49 CFR Part 395. Another 152 ELDs have been voluntarily self-revoked by their suppliers.
What should users do?
Any driver who uses one of the newly revoked devices must:
- Stop using the device;
- Switch to paper logs or logging software until compliant hardware is installed; and
- Replace the revoked device with a compliant ELD before January 30, 2024.
Any driver who continues using a revoked device after the January 30 deadline risks being placed out of service and cited for “No record of duty status” (395.8(a)(1)).
Any revoked ELD could be added back to the list of registered devices at any time if the manufacturer corrects the deficiencies.
Other tasks to consider
Motor carriers were given 60 days to replace their non-compliant ELDs, but there’s a lot to do in that short amount of time:
- Capture and preserve the records in the old ELD system before the records become inaccessible or the system becomes unusable,
- Shop around for an ELD and back-office system that best matches the company’s needs,
- Learn how the new system works and then train drivers on how to use it,
- Train all affected back-office personnel on the system, and
- Install the new devices and start using them.

Key to remember: The FMCSA has placed another 10 ELDs on its naughty list, effective December 1, 2023. Motor carriers using a newly revoked device have until January 30, 2024, to replace it with another model.
