Leap Day leaves some ELD providers in suspension: FMCSA revokes registrations
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) removed five electronic logging devices (ELDs) from its list of registered devices. Effective February 29, 2024, the ELDs were revoked from the list because they failed to meet established specifications.
ELD capabilities are compared against requirements in Part 395, Subpart B, Appendix A.
Which devices are affected?
The FMCSA warns motor carriers and drivers against using the following ELDs:
- CI ELD LOGS,
- CN ELD,
- KSK ELD,
- TT ELD 30, and
- TT ELD 1010.
Motor carriers and drivers using a revoked ELD have been instructed by FMCSA to:
- Discontinue using the ELDs,
- Revert to paper logs or logging software, and
- Replace the ELDs with compliant device from the list of Registered Devices.
These steps must be taken prior to April 29, 2024.
Some ELDs in past revocations were restored to the list shortly after being removed. It is suggested that those using impacted ELDs watch the Registered Device list in the event their device’s status changes.
