EHS Monthly Round Up - June 2023
Hi everyone! Welcome to the monthly news roundup video, where we’ll review the most impactful environmental, health, and safety news. Please view the content links in the transcript to take a deeper dive into the topics I’ll be covering today. With that said, let’s get started!
OSHA has expressed interest in developing a Leading Indicators Resource tool that employers can use to help develop or improve their safety and management system. The agency requests stakeholder feedback by July 17.
Impact inspections at 20 mines across 15 states in April uncovered 335 violations, the Mine Safety and Health Administration reported. Of these, 92 were significant and substantial, meaning they are likely to cause severe injury or illness.
OSHA’s Spring 2023 regulatory agenda was released June 14 and projects five final rules before the end of the year. These are: COVID-19 in healthcare settings, electronic recordkeeping submissions, hazard communication, use of subpoenas, and whistleblower protection. To date, the COVID-19 and electronic submissions rules are at the Office of Management and Budget, or OMB, for review, which is the final step of the rulemaking process before publication in the Federal Register. The hazard communication rule has not yet reached the OMB, which means it won’t meet OSHA’s June 2023 projection for publication.
A new local emphasis program in OSHA Region I targets New England seafood processors and wholesaler operations. Inspections will begin 90 days after an initial outreach period, which took effect June 1.
And finally, turning to environmental news, EPA released its Spring 2023 regulatory agenda on June 14. Most notably on the list are several rules related to PFAS, the Toxic Substances Control Act, National Ambient Air Quality Standards, and National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants.
Thanks for tuning in to the monthly news roundup. We’ll see you next month!
