Visitor safety guidelines
2021-11-12T06:00:00Z
Any visitor who enters your facility on a temporary basis has the potential to be both a safety and security risk.
Address all visitors — including vendors, temporary workers, and even family or friends of employees — in your corporate safety and security policies.
Access controls
- Only allowed to enter the facility when necessary.
- Required to register at a designated visitor entrance each time.
- Entered onto a visitor’s log that includes:
- Visitors’ names and who they represent,
- Arrival and departure times,
- Who approved their entry, and
- Who they came to see or the purpose of the visit.
- Issued a visitor’s badge.
- Monitored so whereabouts are known in the event of an emergency (tornado, fire).
Safety risks
- Notified of the hazards they may encounter while on site depending on where they will be taken.
- Provided a simple explanation of relevant emergency procedures.
- Temporarily issued personal protective equipment (PPE), (e.g., hard hat, safety glasses) to be returned when exiting.
Rules of conduct
- Received a copy of the company’s rules of conduct* each time they enter, even if a frequent visitor. Topics may include:
- No touching equipment,
- No smoking,
- Remaining with the escort,
- No entering restricted areas,
- No pranks or horseplay,
- No distracting employees involved in a safety function, and
- Wearing a visitor’s badge at all times.
- Notified of consequences of “noncompliance” with the policy, including:
- Immediate removal from the premises, and
- Visitor privileges revoked.
*Employee escorts should also be reminded of rules of contact.
