The Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest is a type of shipping paper that is required to accompany hazardous waste from the time it ships from the waste generator’s facility to the final destination. Manifest users have the option of using paper manifest forms or EPA’s electronic manifest system called e-Manifest.
The Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest (EPA Form 8700-22) is designed to seamlessly track hazardous waste from the time it leaves the generator facility where it was produced, until it reaches the off-site waste management facility that will store, treat, or dispose of the waste. The system allows the waste generator to verify that its waste has been properly delivered and that no waste has been lost or unaccounted for in the process.
Anyone who handles the waste along the way must sign a copy of the manifest.
The manifest is regulated by both EPA and the DOT. It contains detailed information on the type and quantity of the waste being shipped. Each manifest has a unique 12-digit manifest tracking number.
