Many companies use a wide variety of chemicals. Although these chemicals may be essential to production, they can be hazardous if employees don’t use, handle, or store them properly. Therefore, employees must understand the necessary practices for working safely with or around chemicals.

Share these chemical safety tips with employees to prevent accidents:

  • Use chemicals only after proper training on safe handling requirements,
  • Use only chemicals approved by your company and specified for each task,
  • Make sure proper labels are affixed to containers to prevent mix-ups,
  • Use each chemical only according to the manufacturer’s recommended guidelines or instructions printed on the label,
  • Always use the required personal protective equipment,
  • Make certain chemicals that aren’t in use are properly put in storage to prevent accidental use or spills,
  • Store chemicals in their designated area and separate them according to type (e.g., flammable) as necessary.
