Hi everyone! Welcome to the monthly news roundup video, where we’ll review the most impactful environmental, health, and safety news. Please view the content links in the transcript to take a deeper dive into the topics I’ll be covering today. With that said, let’s get started!
A new OSHA National Emphasis Program targets warehousing and distribution center operations. It took effect July 13 and will remain in effect for three years. Inspections will begin after a 90-day outreach period.
OSHA’s revised electronic reporting rule takes effect January 1, 2024. It adds significant obligations for certain employers with 100 or more employees at a single location. OSHA also updated from the 2012 to the 2017 NAICS codes.
On July 20, OSHA published its PPE in construction proposed rule. The change would clarify that PPE must fit each employee properly. It also would align the language in OSHA’s PPE standard for construction with its standards for general industry and maritime. OSHA is accepting comments on the rule until September 18.
OSHA has a rulemaking in the works to protect workers from exposure to hazardous heat in general industry, construction, maritime, and agriculture.
The agency will hold several Small Business Advocacy Review Panel meetings on or around August 21 to collect information from small entities on the potential impact a Heat rule may have on their operations.
And finally, Washington State updated its workplace heat rules by expanding existing requirements. Employers must provide shade, allow cool-down periods, and closely monitor all workers for signs of heat stress.
