16 Nationwide dredge & fill permits updated
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has finalized and published 16 Nationwide Permits (NWP) covering certain activities registered under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899. This action included the modification and reissuing of 12 existing NWPs and the initial publication of four new NWPs. There are 40 more NWPs that were not revised during this action and continue to be in effect in the last revision (January 2017). Those NWPs finalized in this action are:

- Surface Coal Mining Activities
- Residential Developments
- Commercial and Institutional Developments
- Agricultural Activities
- Recreational Facilities
- Stormwater Management Facilities
- Mining Activities
- Commercial Shellfish Mariculture Activities
- Underground Coal Mining Activities
- Land-Based Renewable Energy Generation Facilities
- Water-Based Renewable Energy Generation Pilot Projects
- Seaweed Mariculture Activities (new NWP)
- Finfish Mariculture Activities (new NWP)
- Electric Utility Line and Telecommunications Activities (new NWP)
- Utility Line Activities for Water and Other Substances (new NWP)
NWPs are important to provide an expedited review of projects that have no more than minimal impact on the aquatic environment. NWPs cover activities in a variety of categories including residential developments, agricultural activities, stormwater management facilities, land-based renewable energy generation facilities, commercial and industrial developments, and recreational facilities.
