Transportation Monthly Round Up - November 2024
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have worked together to announce the adjustment of operating hours at 38 ports of entry along the Northern border, which will come into effect on January 6, 2025.
In a release issued by CBP, the agencies indicate that this decision was made through close collaboration with CBSA in their joint efforts to more effectively utilize resources, as well as enhance national security and border security to the benefit of both nations.
The vast majority of the 118 northern border ports of entry will continue to operate at existing hours, including many with 24/7 operations.
It’s that time of year again: Remember to renew your fuel tax license and decals before the end of 2024 under the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) to keep your trucks on the road in January.
What’s the rush? In some jurisdictions, your new decals will arrive within a few days of submitting your renewal application. In others, they may take up to a month. To avoid the stress and keep your trucks on the road, file your renewal application with your base jurisdiction well before December 31.
Stay tuned for new CSA changes that will be going live soon. No announced dated when they will be live, but we will keep you updated as things progress.
Some of the changes at a high level include the following:
- Reorganized and updated Safety Categories, now Compliance Categories.
- Consolidated violations and simplified violation severity weights of a 1 or 2 versus 1 through 10.
- Proportionate percentiles will be used instead of safety event groups.
- Improved intervention thresholds to address the riskiest carriers sooner.
- Greater focus on recent violations, and
- An updated utilization factor.
