['Hazardous Materials Table']

- HMT Column 1 uses the symbols +, A, D, G, I, and W to identify hazardous materials that have special shipping conditions.
Column 1 of the Hazardous Materials Table (HMT) uses six symbols to identify hazardous materials that have special shipping conditions, such as restrictions for air, domestic, international, or vessel transport.
These symbols are defined as follows:
| Symbol | Meaning |
|---|---|
| + | Fixes the proper shipping name, hazard class, and packing group without regard to whether the material actually meets the definition of that class or packing group, or meets any other hazard class definition. |
| A | The material is only regulated when transported by aircraft — unless the material is a hazardous substance or hazardous waste. |
| D | Identifies proper shipping names that are appropriate for domestic transportation but may be inappropriate for international transportation. |
| G | Identifies materials that require a technical name (in parentheses) to be listed with the proper shipping name. |
| I | Identifies proper shipping names that are appropriate for international transportation. An alternate proper shipping name may be selected when only domestic transportation is involved. |
| W | The material is only regulated when transported by vessel — unless the material is a hazardous substance or hazardous waste. |
