In limited circumstances, employers may (and must) accept receipts in place of a List A, List B, or List C document. Receipts for a replacement of a lost, stolen, or damaged document are acceptable in place of the document for which the receipt was issued. However, receipts for initial application of a document are not acceptable because an employee has not yet been issued the document. Additionally, receipts are not acceptable if employment is expected to last fewer than three business days.
