Pay transparency
In Connecticut, employers must disclose salary information to applicants upon request.
An employer must provide wage range information to an applicant upon the earliest of either the applicant’s request, or prior to or at the time the applicant is made an offer of compensation. Employers may not fail or refuse to provide current employees with their wage range upon:
- Hiring,
- A change in the employee’s position, or
- The employee’s first request for a wage range.
The law applies to applicants and employees who work for a Connecticut employer, even if they live outside the state.
Salary history
Connecticut employers are banned from making inquiries into a prospective employee’s wage and salary history, as well as the value of other previous compensation structures. The law applies to all employers with one or more employees in the state. An employee who believes this law has been violated has two years to file a claim.
