In North Dakota, a number of different state and federal rules regulate ASTs, depending on size, location, use of tank, and product stored. The North Dakota Fire Marshal’s Office requires preinstallation application for public fuel-dispensing sites, and has established general requirements for tanks installed at government and commercial sites. North Dakota has a Petroleum Tank Release Compensation Fund that may reimburse the tank owner for certain cleanup activities if a leak or release is discovered.
