OSHA defines a “container” as any can, barrel, drum, or tank; however, that container must “approved.” OSHA defines an approved container as one that is “acceptable to the authority enforcing the code.” This would include containers allowed by the Department of Transportation (DOT) or containers that are “listed and labeled” with an approval from Underwriter’s Laboratory, Factory Mutual, or other Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory.
