Training must be provided to employees who are required to use PPE and include the following:
- When PPE is necessary;
- How improper fit, use, or maintenance can compromise its protective effects;
- Limitations and capabilities of the PPE;
- How to properly don, doff, adjust, and wear the protection; and
- Proper care, maintenance, useful life, and disposal.
Employers should make sure that each employee demonstrates an understanding of the PPE training as well as the ability to properly wear and use PPE before they are allowed to perform work requiring the use of the PPE.
A record of this training must be kept that contains:
- The name of each employee who received the training,
- The date(s) of the training, and
- Information that identifies the subject covered during the training.
