The Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) is a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirement under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). It requires U.S. food importers to verify that their foreign suppliers are producing food in compliance with U.S. food safety laws, including:
- FDA’s hazard-based preventive controls (or equivalent)
- Food is not adulterated
- Food is properly labeled, including allergen labeling
USDA is exempt from FSVP importing requirements.
