A fit test is used to estimate how well the face piece of the respirator is able to form a seal with an individual’s face. The “test” consists of procedures specified in Appendix A of the standard. The fit factor is a number based on the ratio of concentration of contaminate outside the respirator to the concentration inside the respirator.
