OSHA’s requirements for spray booth alarms and emergency alarms are found in the two standards listed below.

Section 1910.107(h)(12) states areas used for spraying, including the interior of the booth, shall be protected by automatic sprinklers where this protection is available. Where this protection is not available, other approved automatic extinguishing equipment shall be provided.

Section 1910.165(b)(2) states the employee alarm shall be capable of being perceived above ambient noise or light levels by all employees in the affected portions of the workplace. Tactile devices may be used to alert those employees who would not otherwise be able to recognize the audible or visual alarm.
