The hazardous energy control procedures must be in writing for each machine and piece of equipment affected by the standard (see the next questions for exceptions).
The documented procedures must identify the types of energy to be controlled (by magnitude or by type) and must outline the procedures for shutdown; equipment isolation; lockout/tagout device application, transfer, and removal; release of stored energy; and testing and verification of isolation.
