When performing group lockout/tagout the procedures uses shall afford the employees a level of protection equivalent to that provided by the utilization of a personal lockout or tagout device.
Group lockout/tagout devices shall be used as required by Title 8, CCR 3314(g) Hazardous Energy Control Procedures and also in accordance with requirements that include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
- Primary responsibility shall be with one authorized employee for a set number of employees;
- Provision shall be made for the authorized employee to assess the risk to individual group members with regard to the lockout/tagout of the machine or equipment;
- When more than one crew, craft, department, etc., is involved, overall lockout/tagout responsibility shall be given to an authorized employee designated to coordinate all groups and ensure continuity of protection;
- Each authorized employee shall affix a personal lockout/tagout device to the group lockout device, group lockbox, or comparable mechanism when he or she begins work and shall remove those devices when he or she stops working on the machine or equipment being serviced or maintained.
