OSHA regulates temporary wiring at 1910.305, “Wiring Methods, Components, and Equipment for General Use.” Approved extension cords are only allowable in the workplace as temporary wiring. When used for this circumstance, extension cords may be run through doorways, windows, or similar openings if they are protected from damage. They can be used for no more than 90 days for temporary use.
