The Bloodborne Pathogen Standard requires that the biohazard label be affixed to containers of regulated waste and other containers used to store, transport, or ship blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM). The biohazard label must have a fluorescent orange or orange-red background with the biohazard symbol, word BIOHAZARD, and any other lettering in a contrasting color. These labels must be affixed as close as feasible to the container by string, wire, adhesive, or other method that prevents their loss or unintentional removal. A red container may be substituted for the biohazard label. See 1910.1030(g)(1) for more details.
