The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that in 2017, more than 90,000 police-reported crashes involved drowsy drivers. These crashes led to an estimated 50,000 injuries and nearly 800 deaths.
It’s important to:
- Get a full night of rest before driving.
- Stop and get out of the vehicle to stretch and walk about every two hours.
- Set a realistic goal of how many miles you can safely drive each day.
- Find a place to safely pull over and rest if a driver feels tired.
- Avoid taking medications that cause drowsiness.
