“Precautionary statement” means a phrase that describes recommended measures that should be taken to minimize or prevent adverse effects resulting from exposure to a hazardous chemical, or improper storage or handling. Use of precautionary statements is mandatory under OSHA’s HazCom standard; detailed information can be found in Appendix A, Appendix B, and Appendix C to 1910.1200.
The statements are linked to a hazard class and category. They supplement the hazard information on the label, and are used to minimize or prevent adverse effects from physical, health, or environmental hazards. First aid information will be included in this precautionary information.
