Importers are responsible for the following actions under the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP):

Determining known or reasonably foreseeable hazards associated with each imported food;
Evaluating the risk posed by the food based on the hazard analysis and the foreign supplier’s performance;
Using that risk evaluation to approve foreign suppliers and determine appropriate supplier verification activities;
Conducting supplier verification activities, as required;
Taking appropriate corrective actions when necessary;
Developing and maintaining a written FSVP Plan, prepared by a qualified individual, that is in place at the time food or beverages are imported into the United States; and
Maintaining required FSVP records to demonstrate compliance with FDA regulations.
