State Child Labor Laws: The Missouri Child Labor Law prohibits work in some occupations and limits working hours for persons under the age of 16. In addition to prohibited hazardous occupations, there are specific restrictions regarding employment in hotels and in businesses which sell alcoholic beverages.
Minors under the age of 14 are allowed to work only in limited areas such as the entertainment industry (an entertainment permit is required). Minors under 16 years of age may not work in any street occupation (such as door-to-door selling) unless the employer has received written permission from the director of the Division of Labor Standards. Work certificates are required of minors under the age of 16.

State Minimum Wage: Effective January 1, 2018, the state minimum wage is $7.85 per hour. The minimum wage is adjusted effective January 1 each year.
The Missouri Minimum Wage and Overtime Law, sections 290.500 to 290.530, is not enforced by the state. Persons wishing to collect wages owed must file a private right of action (law suit).
The Missouri minimum wage requirements can be found in Chapter 290, Section 290.502 of the Missouri Revised Statutes.
Overtime: Employees are covered under the federal overtime law if the businesses' gross annual volume sales is more than $500,000. Covered employees are to be paid 11/2 times the regular wage rate for any hours over 40 hours in a workweek.
Requirements for overtime compensation can be found in Chapter 290, Section 290.505 of the Missouri Revised Statutes.
State Prevailing Wage: No threshold amount for contract coverage has been set under the state prevailing wage law.
The Missouri prevailing wage requirements can be found in Chapter 290, Section 290.250 of the Missouri Revised Statutes.
