Maine’s Wage and Hour Division enforces state laws and investigates complaints pertaining to:

State Child Labor Laws: The Child Labor Law restricts hours of work and prohibits employment in hazardous occupations. Minors under 18 are prohibited from working in certain occupations. The state of Maine requires work permits for minors under 16 years of age.
The Maine child labor requirements can be found Title 26, Chapter 7, Subchapter IV, Sections 702 and 771 through 785 of the Maine Revised Statutes.
State Minimum Wage: Effective January 2025, the minimum wage is $14.65 per hour. Effective January 2024, the minimum wage is $14.15 per hour.
If the highest federal minimum wage is increased in excess of the minimum wage in effect, the minimum wage is increased to the same amount, effective on the same date as the increase in the federal minimum wage, but in no case may the minimum wage exceed the minimum wage otherwise in effect under this section by more than $1 per hour.
Overtime: Premium pay is required after 40 hours weekly.

State Prevailing Wage: $10,000 is set as the threshold amount for contract coverage under the state prevailing wage law.
