The Louisiana Workforce Commission (replaces the Louisiana Department of Labor) administers programs and enforces laws designed to protect the Louisiana's workers. The Department coordinates and administers programs conducted by the state, or jointly with federal agencies, in the areas of labor-management relations, manpower evaluation and training, employment, unemployment compensation, worker's compensation, job safety, and the licensing and regulation of private employment agencies, barbers and plumbers.
State Child Labor Laws: The Child Labor Law restricts hours of work and prohibits employment in hazardous occupations. The state of Louisiana requires work permits for minors under 18 years of age.
The Louisiana child labor requirements can be found in Title 23, Chapter 3, Part I, Sections 151 through 192 of the Louisiana Statutes.
State Minimum Wage: Louisiana has no state minimum wage law.
State Prevailing Wage: Louisiana does not have a prevailing wage law; it was repealed in 1988.
