The Iowa Division of Labor Services enforces rules about wage collection, child labor, minimum wage, and employment agency licensing.
State Child Labor Laws: Iowa law requires minors under the age of 16 to have a work permit. For minors aged 14 and 15, the employer must complete an Employer’s Agreement specifically listing all work the minors will be performing, equipment they will use, and hours to be worked.

State Minimum Wage: The minimum wage for Iowa is $7.25 per hour as of January 1, 2008.
This minimum wage does not apply to employees who have not yet completed 90 days of employment with an employer. These employees will need to be paid $6.35 per hour as of January 1, 2008.

State Prevailing Wage: Iowa does not have a prevailing wage law.
