State Child Labor Laws: With some exemptions, minors must be at least 14 years of age to be employed in the state of New Jersey. New Jersey law prohibits work in some occupations and limits working hours for persons under the age of 18. Minors under 18 years of age require employment certificates.

State Minimum Wage: Effective January 1, 2017, the New Jersey minimum wage is $8.44 per hour. It will be increased each year, effective January 1, based on inflation rates.
Overtime: With some exceptions, New Jersey employers must pay 11/2 times an employee's regular wage rate whenever an employee works more than 40 hours in any scheduled workweek.

State Prevailing Wage: $2,000 is set as the threshold amount for contract coverage under the state prevailing wage law.
