Vets-4212 — Veteran categories
For the purposes of this report, employees must be identified by the same job categories required by the EEO-1 Report and also according to their identification with the following veteran statuses:
- Disabled veteran —
- A veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or
- A person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.
- Armed forces service medal veteran — a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service, participated in a U.S. military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded.
- Recently separated veteran — a veteran who has been discharged or released from active duty less than three years ago. Prospera uses a veteran's discharge/release date to determine whether or not the individual qualifies under this category.
- Active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran — a veteran who served on active duty during a war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense. Under the VETS-100A Report, this category was known as “Other protected veteran.”
*Note: Information on the wars, campaigns, or expeditions for which a campaign badge has been authorized as well as the operations that qualify a veteran for an Armed Forces service medal may be found at http://www.fedshirevets.gov/hire/hrp/vetguide/index.aspx.
