Oregon adopts most of federal OSHA’s Ventilation standard at 29 CFR 1910.94 and also has some additional standards. Oregon Administrative Rules for ventilation are stricter in the following areas:
- Definitions;
- Recirculation of local exhaust system air;
- Make-up air;
- Air contamination from exhaust systems;
- Use of salamanders and fuel-burning heating devices;
- Local exhaust ventilation;
- Exhausting more than one substance at a time;
- Exhausting flammable materials;
- Removal and disposal of collected materials;
- Reduction of air contaminant concentrations.
Furthermore, Oregon does not adopt 1910.94(a)(6) regarding air supply and air compressors as well as blasting nozzles. Instead, Oregon uses the requirements at OAR 437-002-0081(12) and (13), which reference a more recent ANSI standard than federal.
Finally, Oregon OSHA does not adopt by reference 1910.94(c) (Spray finishing) or 1910.107 (Spray finishing using flammable and combustible materials). Instead, spray finishing operations must follow the rules at OAR 437-002-0107.
