The State of Oklahoma requires titles to be applied and issued to a vehicle within 30 days of obtaining ownership. All vehicles are required to be titled unless otherwise exempt. Vehicles exempt from Oklahoma title requirements are non-commercial trailers, which includes utility, boat, and farm trailers.
To obtain an original Oklahoma title, the following documents are typically required:
- Proper evidence of ownership;
- Valid driver license or FEI number;
- Lien information and documentation, if applicable;
- Verification of liability insurance, if applicable;
- Completed application;
- Purchase price documentation, a purchase contract, bill of sale, Form 722-1, or a sales agreement; and
- Odometer disclosure statement, if applicable.
Other relevant information includes:
- Vehicles are subject to excise tax,
- Oklahoma is a title holding state, and
- Vehicle identification number (VIN) inspections are required for out-of-state vehicles.
Agency: Service Oklahoma, Auto and Vehicle Services.
Fees: There are fees associated with titling a vehicle within Oklahoma, including an $11 title fee. VIN inspections have a fee of $4.
