To apply for a Connecticut car title, drivers must complete a Connecticut Registration and Auto Title Application (Form H-13B) and submit the form in person at a Connecticut Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV) office, along with supporting documentation and titling fees.
When completing the Connecticut car title application, drivers must provide information pertaining to the car owner, vehicle type, seller, and security interest (if applicable). Car owners who need to get car titles must provide information such as the following:
- The name, drivers license, mailing address, birth date, and phone number of the vehicle owner(s);
- The vehicles make, model, year, vehicle identification number (VIN), body style, fuel type, and odometer reading;
- Seller information, including the seller's name and address, as well as the date and sale price of the vehicle; and
- Security interest information, including the name and address of the lienholder (if applicable).
If necessary, the certificate of title application includes additional space for providing information pertaining to leased vehicles, tax exemptions, and dealer transactions.
In addition to submitting a car title application, motorists must provide other supporting documentation as well, including the previous vehicle title, the bill of sale, proof of identification, and payment for titling fees.
Other relevant information includes:
- The vehicle and/or title may be subject to state sales and use tax;
- Certain vehicle types are subject to VIN inspections, including vehicles brought in from out-of-state that are to be registered within Connecticut;
- A vehicle must be titled within the state to be registered within Connecticut; and
- Vehicles owned by nonresidents who aren't required by law to register within the state, special mobile equipment, any trailer with a gross weight under 3,000 pounds, motor vehicles owned by the state, and snowmobiles or all-terrain vehicles aren't required to obtain a vehicle title.

Fees: There are fees associated with titling a vehicle within Connecticut; however, car title costs vary depending on the type of vehicle that is being issued the credential. The standard new car title fee for passenger vehicles is $25.
