International Registration Plan (IRP)

Québec is a member of the International Registration Plan (IRP). Québec-based carriers operating apportionable vehicles in Québec and one or more other member jurisdictions are subject to IRP.

An apportioned vehicle is any commercial vehicle used for the transportation of persons or property and:

  • Is a power unit having a gross weight in excess of 11,794 kilograms (26,000 pounds); or
  • Is a power unit having three or more axles, regardless of weight; or
  • Is used in combination when the weight of such combination exceeds 11,794 kilograms (26,000 pounds) gross vehicle weight.

Québec bases its registration on the number of axles on the vehicle or combination.

Fees

Effective January 1, 2019

TRUCK OR TRUCK TRACTOR
Truck:
If the vehicle is a truck having:
UNLADEN (TARE) WEIGHTREGISTRATION FEE (Canadian)
3,000 kg or less (6,614 lb or less) $206
Truck or tractor:
If the vehicle is a truck or truck tractor having a tare weight of over 3,000 kg (over 6,614 lb):
1. Determine the TOTAL COMBINED NUMBER OF AXLES (power unit axles + trailer or semitrailer axles).
2. Locate TOTAL COMBINED NUMBER OF AXLES in column A and use the corresponding fee in column B.
