Vehicle registration trip permits
The owner of a vehicle not registered in accordance with the provisions of a reciprocity agreement between the government of Québec and another government may be issued, a registration certificate for a single trip upon payment of the fees shown below. The single trip permit (for delivery only - no pickup) is valid for 10 days and authorizes a person to travel from the Québec border to another point in Québec and to return to that border, or to cross over Québec land in order to enter a Canadian province or another country.
The temporary registration, however, does not permit intrajurisdictional operation; full Québec registration is required for that. Should a carrier operate within Québec under full registration, he/she may, upon cessation of operations, return the markers issued by the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec and obtain a partial refund of the registration fee paid based on the number of months used less the month the plates are returned.
Fees: Single 10-day trip permit, $38 for the power unit, plus fuel tax (if the carrier is not registered under IFTA) and service fees.
Fuel trip permits
If a carrier will be operating a qualified vehicle into Québec but does not have an IFTA licence, then the carrier can obtain a trip permit to enter Québec. The trip permit must be obtained before entering Québec.
Trip permits are $0.15 per kilometre to be traveled (minimum $75) and must be kept in the vehicle.
