Under CFR 23 – Highways – Part 658 outlines regulations for Truck Size and Weight. Section 658.13 Length – reads that the length provisions of the STAA apply only to the following types of vehicle combinations:
- Truck tractor-semitrailer
- Truck tractor-semitrailer-trailer
The length provisions apply on the above combinations only when being operated on the National Network System, No state shall impose a length limitation of less than 48 feet on a semitrailer operating in a truck tractor-semitrailer combination; or 28 feet on any semitrailer or trailer operating in a truck tractor-semitrailer-trailer combination.
NOTE: Under Section 658.16 Exclusions from Length and Width Determinations, and Appendix D to Part 658, there are certain components that are excluded by law or regulation from being included in the length measurement of a commercial motor vehicle.
