Dangerous goods transport
An agreement respecting administration of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, 1992 was signed by representatives of Transport Canada and the Province of Alberta in 2007.
Dangerous goods contacts
The Dangerous Goods and Rail Safety Branch has inspectors throughout the province. It also utilizes designated highway inspectors who belong to other enforcement agencies such as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), municipal police, and Inspection Services' Transport Officers.
The Coordination and Information Centre (CIC) answers questions about dangerous goods from industry and enforcement. The CIC is manned 24 hours a day, seven days a week and responds to an average of 350 dangerous goods transportation incidents and 75 natural emergencies a year.

Hazardous waste
Alberta Environment has responsibility for regulating the transportation, treatment, and disposal of hazardous wastes. Alberta Environment uses a manifest system to track the movement of hazardous waste from its place of generation to its point of receipt. Call (780) 427-0666 to obtain copies of the manifest form; a hazardous waste carrier number is required for transporters. Call (780) 427-0637 for an application.
