Each state manages Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) reporting differently. The Toxics Release Inventory is a federal program that requires certain facilities to report their chemical release data to EPA. The data are due by July 1 and cover waste management activities that occurred during the previous calendar year. EPA makes these data publicly available. Some states have additional reporting requirements under TRI.
Note that facilities must submit a copy of each reporting form sent to EPA to the state or tribe in which the facility is located. The TRI-MEweb reporting platform will automatically send this form to the appropriate state if the state participates in the TRI Data Exchange (TDX). For non-TDX states and tribes, completed TRI forms must be printed from TRI-MEweb and mailed to the designated state or tribal contact. Trade secret submissions must be sent to the federal EPA Data Processing Center.
Use the chart below to determine if additional requirements apply to your operations.
