Federal: 29 CFR 1910.110 Storage and handling of liquefied petroleum gases
A summary of the additional requirements includes the following:
- The design, construction, and installation of LP-gas containers, including the storage and handling of LP-gas, must comply with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 58, Standard for the Storage and Handling of Liquefied Petroleum Gases, 1992 Edition.
- California’s LP-gas requirements do not apply to:
- Pressure vessels subject to an internal or external pressure of up to 15 psig (except those for the storage and dispensing of natural gas as a motor fuel) with no limitation on size, and vessels having an inside diameter of up to 6 inches with no limitation on pressure; or
- Natural gas vessels and installations and air brake tanks subject to the jurisdiction and inspection of the Public Utilities Commission, the Department of Transportation, or the Highway Patrol.
- A permit from the Division of Occupational Safety and Health is required for the use of any pressure vessel for the storage or transportation of LP-gas (except pressure vessels of 125 gallons capacity or less or for cylinders used, inspected, and maintained in accordance with DOT regulations).
