Overview
The Department of State Police is responsible for the motor carrier safety regulations in Virginia. Virginia adopted the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), Parts 366, 370-376, 379, 380 Subpart E and F, 382, 385, 386 Subpart G, 387, 390–397, and 399 in effect as of October 1, 2024, with certain exceptions. The adoption was effective October 1, 2024.
Applicability
The adopted regulations apply to vehicles over 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating, or gross vehicle weight or gross combination weight, whichever is greater, and vehicles of any size used to transport hazardous materials in a quantity requiring placards.
