Overview
The Department of Transportation is primarily responsible for trucking safety operations in Rhode Island. Rhode Island has adopted Parts 387 and 390–399 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations not in conflict with the laws of Rhode Island as amended and adopted by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Applicability
This adoption applies to any self-propelled or towed motor vehicle used on a highway in intrastate and interstate commerce when the vehicle has a gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight rating, gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight of 10,001 pounds or more, or is of any size transporting a placardable amount of hazardous materials.
