Overview
The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety have authority to supervise and regulate for-hire and private motor carriers in regard to the safety of operations. Minnesota has adopted Sec. 390.15 and Parts 391-393 and 395-397 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) with certain modifications.
Applicability
This adoption applies to motor vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight, gross vehicle weight rating, gross combination weight, or gross combination weight rating of 10,001 pounds or more, or hauling hazardous materials required to be placarded.
There are exceptions for utilities, farmers, and certain construction activities.
